Fluorocarbon toxicity: aerosol deaths and anaesthetic reactions.
نویسنده
چکیده
Twelve cases of death due to fluorocarbon inhalation have been seen in a four year period 1971-1975. The source of the material has been commercial spray cans. The postmortem examinations are nonspecific, but a history of excitement or sudden death is often elicited. Confirmation of the cause of death was made by demonstration of a halogenated hydrocarbon in the blood by gas chromatography.

Investigation of allergic and hypersensitivity reactions to anaesthetic agents.
Some three million general anaesthetics are administered annually in the United Kingdom, for a variety of surgical procedures. It is inevitable that untoward reactions will occur, but it is the incidence of the reactions which gives cause for concern. Lunn and Mushin (1982) described almost 300 deaths per year totally attributable to anaesthesia and a much larger number, 1800 deaths, in which a...
متن کاملGene Expression and Pulmonary Toxicity of Chitosan-graft-Polyethylenimine as Aerosol Gene Carrier
Chitosan-graft-polyethylenimine (CHI-g-PEI) copolymer has been used for theimprovement of low transfection efficiency of chitosan. The present study aims to test thepulmonary toxicity and efficiency of CHI-g-PEI as an aerosol gene carrier. Mice were exposedto aerosol containing green-fluorescent protein (GFP)-polyethylenimine (PEI) or GFP-CHIg-PEI complexes for 30 min during the development of ...

متن کاملLocal anaesthetic systemic toxicity following oral ingestion in a child: Revisiting dibucaine
Dibucaine, a potent and toxic local anaesthetic, although currently withdrawn by the United States Food and Drug Administration for use as a spinal anaesthetic, continues to remain available in many over-the-counter topical formulations. Systemic toxicity following oral ingestion of local anaesthetics is rare. We report a case of accidental ingestion of dibucaine (ear drops) in a 7-year-old chi...
متن کاملAnaphylaxis during anaesthesia: Indian scenario
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Anaphylaxis during anaesthesia is a rare but serious problem. In contrast to the developed countries where databases of perianaesthetic anaphylaxis are preserved, none exist in India. We conducted a survey amongst Indian anaesthesiologists to study the incidence and aetiology of anaphylaxis during anaesthesia in India. METHODS A written questionnaire comprising 20 items wa...
